Vandal Defense Unable to Stop Nevada

Four NATHAN ENDERLE touchdown passes, two second quarter 73-yard touchdown receptions by junior wide receiver Maurice Shaw, a second quarter 59-yard TD run by Deonte Jackson, a 52-yard field goal by Trey Farquhar, and almost 500 yards of total offense were not enough for the Vandals to overcome the Wolf Pack and dual-threat QB Colin Kaepernick (230 rush, 178 pass), as Idaho fell 70-45 to Nevada.

RENO, Nev. – Colin Kaepernick was too much for Idaho to handle Saturday afternoon and the result was a 70-45 loss to the Wolf Pack in a Western Athletic Conference game that dropped the Vandals to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

“We needed as a defense to take care of No. 10,” said Idaho head coach Robb Akey of the key against Nevada and Kaepernick. “We made him look like a Heisman Trophy winner out there today. He out played us.”

Kaepernick threw for 178 of Nevada’s 662 yards and ran for another 230. He scored four rushing touchdowns and threw for another two.

“We told the team before the game, if we play well, we will win the ballgame,” Akey said. “We didn’t play well. We didn’t take care of No. 10.”

Idaho had its own highlights but even two 73-yard receptions by Maurice Shaw, a 59-yard rushing TD by Deonte Jackson, a 54-yard field goal by Trey Farquhar, a career-high four throwing TDs by Nathan Enderle and three TD receptions by Max Komar weren’t enough.
